Erban Suvival 101

We like to spell things difernt here........anywho, this is a place to learn about basic survival in urban areas. I will do my best to list some books for those who can't seem to find any---jeezzzz. For those who have some skills feel free to post what you know----but palleezzzzz don't turn this into a militia training camp for freaks sake just your basic survival plans and skills only!!!! and no political propaganda----Mike has that one down pat so refer to him for all that-----thanks Mike we love you :)

You don't have to be married to a retired Marine to develop some basic survival skills to HELP you survive in most situations. Learn your basic needs in order! #1 WATER, #2 Shelter, #3 Fire and Food, #4 Light and Radio, in colder weather make sure to have gloves and hat and blanket in your car.
Water is a must! you can't live more than 3 or 4 days without it! So, carry an aluminum water bottle filled with fresh water daily everywhere you go. Don't keep plastic water bottles in your car--excessive heat can leach out harmful chemicals into the water plus algae will eventually grow in it---eeewwwww.
Shelter is second---nothing like the sun, rain or cold wind beatin down on ya so find some cover.
Fire and Food is next---ALWAYS COOK YOUR FOOD, so learn how to make a fire without matches or at least carry a good lighter with ya at all times. Food can be the hardest to attain next to water so carry some energy bars or trail mix or jerky etc. with ya. Stuff that can pack in your purse or glove box that can stand up to heat and cold and won't rot---do I really need to add that in there? You get the idea. Hard candy is better than nothin.
Light and Radio----carry a crank flashlight and crank radio with you (in your car). I actually do carry a small AA battery flashlight with me all the time. You never know when you need that extra beam of light! If your in a store when the electricity goes off it is pitch black in there so having a light will help you out!
You can make yourself a small survival kit to carry with you and I highly recommend doing so.

Think primitive when it comes to weapons. Everyone thinks they need an AK47 to survive. It may look good in the movies but try carrying one in your back pocket. And unless you can make your own bullets then your SOL when you run out in about a day. Frankly, if your gonna get a gun get a 22rifle. You can hunt small game (squirrels and rabbits) and the bullets are cheaper and more abundant. Slingshots are great! you can hunt with them and use small rocks. All this advise is worthless if you don't practice your skills. Don't wait until your in a survival situation to learn how to hunt food or purify water or make a fire and shelter. Good luck to you and may God have mercy on your soul----whatever.

Sum Books to read: Survive! by Les Stroud---I love this guy! , Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival by Tom Brown, The Foxfire Book---this is a trippy book indeed but it has some real gems of knowledge in it. These are all mine and I really don't have shelf after shelf of survival books just get a few that are real good that can be carried with you. Read them!!!!!! Go camping and try out your skills, or in your back yard even. Try going a weekend without using any electricity. Go fishing without too much tackle and look for worms and bugs to use as bait, then cook the fish you catch on an open fire that you made with just a few matches. Practice!!!

Survival comes in 3's. 3 minutes with out air, you die. 3 hours to die from exposure, (too hot or too cold). 3 days with out water. 3 weeks with out food. Prepare by having 3 ways to deal with each. Now most wont carry an air bottle with them but if you drive by rivers or live in a flood zone a little bottle of air could make or break you. A gas mask however is inexpensive and can come in handy and a simple dust mask is better than nothing. What I like to bring up here is potassium iodate. If some bastard lites up a dirty bomb ( nuke ) you take the tabs which overloads your thyroid , which is how you obtain and die from over exposure to radiation. So the tabs will by you time to get away from a radiation zone. So on to more everyday stuff. FIRE, the ability to make a fire at all times is imperative, especially now. Even in Cally its gettin down to the 30's and 40's at night. Have 3 ways to make fire. Lighter, Matches, Flint and Steel. WATER. 1 carry water with you all the time. 2 a water purifying filter. 3 water purfying tabs. 4 boiling. After a natural disaster water can become polluted quickly. Cally just burned. Lots of animals burned and died. They are rotting everywhere. The rain comes and washes all kinds of crap into your local water supply. When in doubt, BOIL. It will kill all that crap. I dont use tap water for cooking or drinking. Useta be able to drink out a hose as a kid, no fuckin way now. I have my own jugs and pay 25 cent a gallon. I keep a thirty day supply of water around. I also keep 20 gallons of water around just for flushin shit away, when the water gets shut down. FOOD, buy stuff ya like and stock up on can goods and box stuff that only takes water to cook. Mil Spec food keeps for a very long time and is very nutritious. You can also get them with heaters that are powered by water only. Hydrogen baby. Will run you about 5-7 bucks a meal, which is cheap for waht your getting. Bulk food like rice and beans are great to have around. There cheap and go far and are nutritious. Of course none of this means anything if you dont have a way to protect yourself who wants to survive as well. On a non lethal note I highly recommend buy several cans of wasp and Hornet spray, for your car home etc. They shoot over 20 feet, work better than mace or pepper spray and are legal to carry. At 5 bucks a can ya cant beat it. A short shotgun is the best home defense for the money. Most gun battles take place within 6 feet. An early warning dog is good to have to give you time to get to your piece. The short barrel allows you to navigate hall ways. I prefer 00 buck and slugs, magnum loads.

I dont know much but this i know and have practical experience. I can survive by myself with nothing but my wits, which is the most important thing to have with you in a crisis. I remember when Survivor was coming out and i was all excited and what a fucking let down that was. K , we'll put a guy who hates fags together with a gay guy and call it Survivor. *groan* You want a real test? Take a knife and head out into the wild for a weekend, nothing else. No food or shelter of any kind. I'm getting my mind into this. Gimmee some time.

We live in the country and are prepared for what ever might happen. Have access to water and if it got really bad....not far from a river and can purify the water. Can grow food.....have cattle around and deer and wild turkeys (not so sure how good these might be...have heard they can be kinda tough to eat) also can go fishing.....plenty of wood around and can start fire withiout matches.....also have a water wagon( a tank on wheels that we pull with tractor to water plants around the property)....can store about 275 gals. of water in this....keep earthquake kits we had when we lived on the west coast in our vehicles....these still could be handy to have when storms or if anything other happens....just up date the food items from time to time. We have ability to protect ourselves....and can make own ammo if have to.....we are well prepared to have to do things on our own if ever we have to.....
We had a preview this past spring as to having to make do for just over a week when we had the floods around and we were stranded (no water reached our property but did get close)....about 10 of us around here were stranded.....our pumps kept working just fine.....never lost power but could have made do if we had.....had water wagon full just in case.....also had generator if needed.....but this might not be something that you could use if no gas and something bad happened......
